News for 1st December & Week Ahead

Dearest friends,

The team behind the Live Nativity at St. Luke’s on Christmas eve met this week and we need your help!

We’re going to have five ‘stations’ outside St. Luke’s and we’d like to invite you to volunteer to build and run one of these stations. They are:

  • The Annunciation
  • The Inn (journey to Bethlehem)
  • The Birth of Jesus (the stable)
  • The Wise Men
  • The Shepherds

A script will be written and provided, but we’d really like to invite you to own each station and make it as you see fit. We’ll walk around the stations as a large group and tell the story of Jesus birth – at each station we’ll also sing a carol.

At the end of the evening we’ll head into church for chocolate, cake, and other treats. If you’d like to volunteer to help with that we’d be ever so grateful.

It’s going to be an amazing way to start Christmas and so much fun for children of Newton Abbot, Bovey and beyond.

If you’d like to help in any way please speak to Claire Barker in St. Luke’s and Rebecca Burton in St. John’s.

We’ll offer as much help and support as you need – help us bring new people to church this Christmas!

Fr. Matthew

THIS SUNDAY!
Make sure you come along at 3pm to St. Luke’s on Sunday for an amazing talk from the Rev’d Dr. Chris Moore – A Time Travellers Guide to the Gospel of Mark. We’ll serve refreshments afterwards and end with a short service of Evening Prayer.

Holy Habits
It’s the last Holy Habits this Thursday at 7pm (28th Nov) – we’ll concentrate on daily prayer and scripture and talk about why we bow, bend, and kneel in church.

The Mayors civic service on the 8th December has been cancelled by the Town Council.

Confirmation
Bishop Paul will be with us in February. If you’ve not been confirmed (or don’t know what it means!) and would like to discuss being confirmed, please do speak to Fr. Matthew.

Advent Carols
This Saturday at 6pm at St. John’s come and join us for Advent Carols. A selection of the best advent carols and some beautiful scripture. It’s the perfect way to start advent and get your heart and mind in the right place ahead of Christmas. Sherry will be served after the service.
