Evening Prayer
A service of evening prayer at St. John’s – hosting the Newton Abbot Team. This quiet and beautiful service will lift your heart and make your soul sing. Some months we will be treated to a choir and we’ll get to experience a service of Evensong, other months we’ll simply enjoy the transcendent words of the Book of Common Prayer. Christmas Day Mass SJ
Join us for a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ in our Christmas Day Mass. Technically, this is the third Christmas mass and is called the Daytime or King’s Mass. The liturgy turns to the Gospel of John 1:1-18. This reading not only highlights the imagery of light once again in the birth of Christ (echoed from the previous Masses), but also focuses on the mystery of the Incarnation of the King of Kings.

Nine Lessons & Carols
The first Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held on Christmas Eve 1918 at Kings College, Cambridge. It was planned by Eric Milner-White, who at the age of thirty-four had just been appointed Dean of King’s after experience as an army chaplain which had convinced him that the Church of England needed more imaginative worship.
